Business organisations in Turkey are looking to increase the $ 9.5 billion trade volume between Turkey and Iran to $ 30 billion, President of Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEİK) Nail Olpak said during the Business Council meeting in Iranian capital Tehran.

Olpak said his organisation is working to have friendly relations between Turkey and Iran to affect the two countries’ trade cooperation more positively.

“We will continue to work as the business world. And we will ask for our state officials to clear our path further,” Hürriyet quoted Olpak as saying on Monday.

Olpak was accompanied by Turkish businessmen from the conservative Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD) and Turkey-Iran Business Council President Ümit Kiler.

The Turkish delegation was to meet with their Iranian counterparts, Kiler said, adding, “Our aim is to achieve the $ 30 billion goal set by the presidents of our two countries.”

MÜSİAD Denizli Province Chairman Mehmet Akgün said Turkey and Iran have a high business potential, and invited Iranian businessmen to increase cooperation between the western Turkish province and Tehran for textiles, machinery manufacture and agriculture.

The meeting also saw participation from Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Syria, India, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
