FAISALABAD: A three member Turkish delegation visited Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) to discuss environmental issues of the textile capital of Pakistan. The delegation was comprised of Ozlem ODA Tekir Senior Business Development Manager, Durn Bos and Miss Ezlam Azlas of “iO” environmental solutions, Istanbul Turkey.
Miss Ozlem introduced her firm and said that it is dedicated to nature and humanity. iO is providing consultancy in addition to offering permanent, modern and scientific solutions by integrating knowledge and experience of leading experts of the specific field. About the area of expertise of iO, she said that it has expertise in preparing master plan studies, project management and investment and operational consultancy etc. She said that iO can help Pakistan in construction of Dams, waste water treatment, renewable energy and other environment related issues.
President FCCI Engineer Muhammad Saeed Sheikh told that Faisalabad is dominated by small and medium textile processing units. The major export oriented industries have their own arrangement to treat their water effluent but small and medium units have no readily available solutions because of their financial constraints. He said that for such units combined water treatment plant is only option and in this connection WASA is already conducting study to setup combined water treatment plants and Paharang and Maddoanna drains. He asked the Turkish delegates to provide them details of projects already completed by iO with their cost, technical details and running expenditures etc. He said that some small units could setup jointly their own water treatment plants in case they intend to start exports to the European Union.
Mian Javed Iqbal told that Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development & Management Company is setting up a huge industrial city sprawling over 4500 acres of land along M-3 motorway. The new as well as existing industrial units within the city would be ultimately shifted to this industrial city, he said and added that Punjab government is funding this project. Its infrastructure has been completed and now planning for the installation of waste water treatment plant is in advance stage. He said that the Turkish delegates should have a meeting with CEO of FEDMIC to discuss and fine tune the related issues.
Engineer Muhammad Rizwan Ashraf Chairman FCCI Standing Committee on Environmental Issues said that all most all industrial units pay drainage charges to WASA and hence it is the responsibility of WASA to setup combined water treatment plants. He said that most of the export oriented units are already discharging their treated waste water into the WASA drains that goes to river through Pharang and Maddoanna drains. He said that Pakistan is water scars country and we must learn to recycle available waste water to meet our growing industrial as well as domestic needs. He further told that industrial discharge is immediately diluted as soon as it is mixed with the domestic sewage water and thus it has no negative impact on the aquatic life.
Vice president Engineer Ahmed Hassan told that FCCI has 5000 members and the information about iO could be disseminated to the business community through its efficient IT link. Senior vice president FCCI Rana Sikandar Azam was also present during this meeting.
