Turkish scrap imports from UK rise by 88.3% YoY to 563,000 metric tonnes

ANKARA: Turkish scrap imports from United Kingdom advanced sharply by 88.3% year-on-year to 563,000 metric tons during the first two months of this year, as per the latest figures from Turkish Iron and Steel Producers’ Association (TCUD).

United Kingdom was the major importer of scrap to Turkey during January-February, followed by the US, Russia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ukraine, Romania, Lithuania, Estonia and France.

According to TCUD, Turkish scrap imports from Russia dropped by 12.2% to 375,000 metric tons during the first two months of this year. Imports from Netherlands also down by 3% to 256,000 metric tons.

However, Turkish total scrap import declined by 5.3% year-on-year to 2.82 million metric tons during January-February. Turkey imported $894 million worth scrap during the first two months of this year, down 23.5% from a year ago.
