EUROPE: A natural coincidence will see the two brightest planets – Jupiter and Venus – light up the sky as they draw unusually close together
Venus and Jupiter, two of the brightest planets in the solar system came together in the night sky on Tuesday night.
The two planets appeared to glide close together similar to a full moon. with Jupiter appearing directly above Venus
Although the planets looked like they were going to collide, the whole show was an illusion caused by the line of sight.
The two planets are actually around 600million kilometres apart.
Many people caught the display looking through a small telescope or binoculars.
Upon magnification, Jupiter can be seen as a small circular disc with four bright moons accompanying it, whereas Venus appeared as a fat crescent.
