FRANCE: Somewhere out there, around 581 million light years away, there are two enormous black holes battling out each other in the core of quasar-hosting galaxy, Markarian 231 (Mrk 231). Boffins said that this nearest the quasar from Earth.
Quasars are active galaxies that have the brightest core, which commonly hosts a supermassive black hole.
Researchers from the National Astronomical Observatories of China in Chinese Academy of Sciences spotted these spectacular event, “We are extremely excited about this finding because it not only shows the existence of a close binary black hole in Mrk 231, but also paves a new way to systematically search binary black holes via the nature of their ultraviolet light emission,” co-researcher Youjun Lu said.
The two black holes exhibits huge and ferocious force, because the larger one weighs 150 million times more massive than our Sun, while the other has the size of 4 million solar masses. Researchers detected the black hole using Hubble Space Telescope.
The research about this binary black hole system entitles: A Probable Milli-Parsec Supermassive Binary Black Hole in the Nearest Quasar Mrk 231, which is published in Astrophysical Journal.
Black holes are created when massive stars collapse under their own gravity. Black hole has very powerful gravitational force that swallows up all the objects. Even light–fastest thing in the universe– cannot escape from it.
So a question arises about what happens when information falls inside the black hole. Last week, experts in the field of science held a conference in Stockholm to talk about the nature of black holes.
According Nobel Laureate Physicist Stephen Hawking, there is an escape for the information that falls inside the black hole. He said “If you feel you are in a black hole, don’t give up. There’s a way out.”
