Two more held in foreign currency smuggling case

LAHORE: Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) has arrested two more persons accused of being involved in smuggling of foreign currency worth Rs 53 billion.

Customs official sources said both the accused Tariq Nasir and Shoaib Khilji, employees of Turkish Airline were arrested at Allama Iqbal Airport upon their coming back from Istanbul

Earlier in the case I&P wing arrested two persons Babar Badsha and Shafqat who were attempting to smuggle foreign currency including Saudi Riyals, UAE Dirham, Euros and other currencies worth Rs 53,478,000 in the local market.

The customs officials had launched an FIR against the accused.

Later, the customs court sent accused Shafqat to judicial custody while granted two-day remand of Babar Badshah.

Customs officials said that the accused were smuggling the currency to Dubai.

Special Judge Customs has granted two-day remand of two employees of the private foreign airline involved in smuggling of foreign currency.
