NEW YORK: A student Madeline Girard from the University of California, Berkeley has discovered two new species of peacock spiders in Queenstown, Australia.
They are known as peacock spiders due to their bright colors and also, because of their dancing rituals, which they use to attract mates.
Scientific names of the newly discovered species are Maratus jactatus and Maratus sceletus respectively. Jürgen Otto, co-author of the report, shared that Skeletorus looked dramatically different other peacock spiders to known date. The discovery had led to the thinking that the peacock spider group is much more diverse than previously thought.
