COLOMBO: Sri Lanka Customs officials have arrested two Sri Lankan nationals this morning at the Departure Lounge of the Colombo International Airport in Katunayake for attempting to smuggle out foreign currency worth Rs 30 million.
According to the Customs officials, the two suspects, aged 35 and 49, are residents of Colombo. They have arrived at the airport early this morning to leave for Singapore.
Deputy Customs Director Parakrama Basnayake said the stock of currency was found concealed in clay ornaments packed in their luggage. The stacks of foreign currency included Saudi Riyals, Swiss Francs and Euros. He said the suspects were arrested due to their suspicious behavior. Customs Investigation Department is conducting further investigations.
