Two Srilankan national arrested for smuggling morphine

KOLKATA: Two Srilankan nationals, trying to take a Chennai bound flight from Kolkata, were arrested and 230 gram Morphine was seized from her by the CISF on Monday at the NSCBI airport.

While the Srilankan national- a woman aged 58 years was handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau, CISF sources said that the seizure was one of the largest Morphine seizure in past couple of months.

According to sources, the woman was found to be concealing some item inside her garments, when she was frisked by the security agencies. When searched CISF officials recovered six packets of Morphine valued at Rs 10 lakh from her. The woman’s aide, who was taking another flight to Chennai was also taken in custody.

In two separate incidents Kolkata Police and narcotics Control Bureau on Monday arrested two persons-believed to be big catches in the narcotic racket in the state.

Kolkata Police arrested Md Madhu alias Ahmed Hussein (30 yrs) from Uttarpanchannagram, Anandapur with 520 gram charas. Madhu was an associate of another drug cartel runner Lalbabu who was arrested on Sunday by Kolkata Police. Narcotics Control Bureau on Monday arrested Rezaul Sardar from Swarupnagar in North 24 Parganas in connection to smuggling of 1,400 methamphetamine and 1,800 bottles of Phensedyl.
