SALTON SEA: More than $315,000 in methamphetamine was seized Sunday when Border Patrol agents discovered the drug hidden in a car passing through a checkpoint near the Salton Sea.
At 1:25 p.m., Border Patrol agents say a 2011 Ford Fusion driven by a 25-year-old female U.S. citizen approached the Highway 86 checkpoint.
A drug-sniffing dog alerted to the car, prompting a closer inspection by agents that located 28 vacuum-sealed bundles of methamphetamine hidden in the car’s rocker panels.
The methamphetamine weighed more than 35 pounds and was worth an estimated $315,000 on the street.
The woman, car and drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
