WASHINGTON: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations officers seized 5.7 pounds of methamphetamines valued at approximately $200,000 dollars.

“Drug smugglers get very creative in their attempts to smuggle drugs into the United States,” said Michael Neipert CBP Presidio Port Director, “but our officers are ever vigilant for new or different smuggling trends utilized by drug traffickers.”

According to CBP, a 30-year-old Mexican national was behind the wheel of a 2006 Peugeot 206 that was selected for a thorough inspection. The officers probed the battery and discovered a clear, plastic bag containing a crystalline substance. The substance field tested positive for the properties of methamphetamine.

CBP officers arrested the driver and turned him over to ICE/HSI agents in connection with the failed smuggling attempt.

While anti-terrorism is the primary mission of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the inspection process at the ports of entry associated with this mission results in impressive numbers of enforcement actions in all categories.
