NORTH ADAMS: A North Adams police dog helped his human co-workers find nearly $10,000 worth of heroin during a traffic stop early Thursday. According to the department, police pulled over a 2002 Chrysler Concorde, because the car’s owner, Courtney Schnopps, had an active warrant out for her arrest.
Police questioned Schnopps and her passenger, Matthew Capek, which the department said led them to have probable cause to search the car. Their police dog “Chuck” was called in to search the vehicle, and led police to some 974 bags of heroin.
The officers arrested Schnoops and Capek on charges of possession to distribute heroin, and conspiracy to violate the drug laws.
North Adams police say the heroin had an estimated street value of $9,740.
