WASHINGTON: U.S. stock-market indexes closed lower on Wednesday following a string of disappointing earnings results. The S&P 500 SPX, -0.47% closed 11.98 points, or 0.5%, lower to 2,557.15, with losses across all 11 main sectors. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.48% tumbled 112.30 points, or 0.5%, to 23,329.46. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite index COMP, -0.52% declined 34.54 points, or 0.5%, to 6,563.89. Among the worst performers, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc CMG, -14.58% plunged 14%, while Advanced Micro Devices AMD, -13.47% and Alaska Air Group, Inc ALK, -13.19% lost about 13% each.
