U.S. to provide Jordan with $1.6bn in aid in 2016

AMMAN: U.S. Ambassador in Amman Alice Wells said here the other day that his country is expected to provide Jordan with 1.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2016, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

The U.S. congress has already endorsed 1.2 billion U.S. dollars in aid to Jordan, and the U.S. will extend more aid to Jordan in the field of combating terrorism.

Labeling the ties between the two sides as strategic, she said Jordan’s exports to the U.S. rose by 9 percent in 2015.

On the war on terrorism, she said Jordan plays a key role in the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State.

The U.S. diplomat said the coalition is determined to defeat the IS, added that the IS has lost about 40 percent of territories it used to control.

Fighting the IS in Iraq is easier than in Syria, she said.
