LAHORE: United Business Group (UBG) Chairman Iftikhar Ali Malik Tuesday claimed that his group would win elections of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) for the third time.

He added that opponents had failed to lure voters which continue to disappoint them. Businessmen Panel (BMP) was rejected twice in the FPCCI elections and they had now realised their defeat in the upcoming election as well.

Talking to SVP FPCCI and UBG South Zone Chairman Khalid Tawab, Secretary General Zubair Tufail, FPCCI VP Rahman Aziz, FPCCI Coordination Chairman Malik Sohail and others, he said opponent of UBG had a long history of corruption and there was nothing on their credit which could attract voters.

Malik said now the BMP had started maligning UBG leaders for the sake of cheap popularity, but voters would consider services of the leaders of business community and misleading news in some newspapers would not help rejected elements alter the opinion of voters. The business community across the stretch of country was aware of the UBG services and they know the past of opponents, he said.

Malik said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has put country on path to prosperity and “We will continue to cooperate with the government for the greater good.”On this occasion, Khalid Tawab said he was among the founders of UBG and news regarding his intentions to join BMP was misleading and unfounded.

He said some elements were not happy with the services of UBG and that some of those who left the group had initiated contact for their return which would be a shock for BMP. He said elections would seal the fate of conspirators who had always preferred personal welfare in the name of promotion of interests of the business community.
