Santo Domingo: National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) president Julio Cesar Souffront on Tuesday unveiled two scanner type trucks worth US$1.4 million, to detect strange images in docks and harbors across the country as part of the fight on organized crime, especially drug trafficking and money laundering. The trucks donated by the British government’s Border Force as part of the technical cooperation between the DNCD and United Kingdom authorities.
The equipment will operate at Haina and the Caucedo ports for now, the DNCD said in a press release. Speaking at Haina port Souffront said the UK National Crime Agency and the Border Force assume for one year the maintenance costs of the scanner trucks, of US$210,000 per year.
