UK stocks advance at end of trade, United Kingdom climbs up 0.53%

NEW YORK: U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.53%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LONDON:AHT), which rose 7.74% or 71.00 points to trade at 988.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LONDON:HIK) added 4.36% or 97.00 points to end at 2322.00 and Inmarsat PLC (LONDON:ISA) was up 3.31% or 32.00 points to 998.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN), which fell 8.02% or 10.7000 points to trade at 122.8000 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LONDON:RRS) declined 2.44% or 96.00 points to end at 3830.00 and CRH PLC (LONDON:CRH) was down 1.22% or 23.00 points to 1857.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1197 to 912 and 458 ended unchanged.

Shares in Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN) fell to all time lows; falling 8.02% or 10.7000 to 122.8000.

Gold for December delivery was down 0.42% or 4.80 to $1135.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 3.83% or 1.74 to hit $43.67 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.73% or 1.35 to trade at $48.20 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.06% to 1.5313, while EUR/GBP fell 0.70% to 0.7342.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.44% at 95.81.
