NEW YORK: U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 declined 0.01% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were British American Tobacco (LONDON:BATS), which rose 2.92% or 99.50 points to trade at 3511.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Barratt Developments Plc (LONDON:BDEV) added 2.27% or 13.50 points to end at 609.50 and Imperial Tobacco Group (LONDON:IMT) was up 2.24% or 71.00 points to 3246.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS), which fell 2.68% or 124.00 points to trade at 4502.00 at the close. Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT) declined 2.66% or 30.00 points to end at 1097.00 and Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) was down 2.23% or 22.20 points to 972.20.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1421 to 1169 and 475 ended unchanged.
