NEW YORK: U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Tobacco and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.54%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Imperial Tobacco Group (LONDON:IMT), which rose 2.77% or 82.00 points to trade at 3045.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Barclays (LONDON:BARC) added 2.76% or 6.70 points to end at 249.30 and BG Group (LONDON:BG) was up 2.70% or 22.40 points to 851.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kingfisher (LONDON:KGF), which fell 3.31% or 12.60 points to trade at 368.00 at the close. Shire Plc (LONDON:SHP) declined 1.96% or 105.00 points to end at 5260.00 and Barratt Developments Plc (LONDON:BDEV) was down 1.42% or 7.50 points to 521.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London STOCK EXCHANGE
by 1060 to 1054 and 377 ended unchanged.
