LONDON: U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Tobacco and General Retailer’s sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.94%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Sainsbury (J) (LONDON: SBRY), which rose 3.67% or 9.50 points to trade at 268.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Tesco (LONDON: TSCO) added 3.65% or 8.50 points to end at 241.35 and Kingfisher (LONDON: KGF) was up 3.47% or 12.30 points to 367.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON: TLW), which fell 5.73% or 17.10 points to trade at 281.20 at the close. CRH (LONDON: CRH) declined 4.42% or 80.00 points to end at 1731.00 and Sports Direct Intl Plc (LONDON: SPD) was down 2.36% or 15.50 points to 641.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1173 to 898 and 379 ended unchanged.Shares in Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.73% or 17.10 to 281.20.
Gold for April delivery was up 0.10% or 1.10 to $1153.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in May fell 2.72% or 1.28 to hit $45.78 a barrel, while the May Brent Oil contract fell 2.75% or 1.51 to trade at $53.49 a barrel.
