NEW YORK: Diageo Plc added 1.2 percent after saying potential acquirers have expressed interest in its wine business. BP Plc and Royal Dutch Shell Plc climbed more than 1 percent. TUI AG advanced 3.3 percent, posting the biggest increase in the benchmark FTSE 100 Index.
The FTSE 100 gained 0.3 percent to 7,005.51 at 8:43 a.m. in London, following a loss of 1.2 percent last week. While the benchmark measure has risen 6.7 percent this year, stock volatility climbed to its highest level since January last month, before Thursday’s general election.
Aberdeen Asset Management Plc slid 2.3 percent after saying clients withdrew more money from its funds. Glencore Plc fell 1.1 percent as it reported that copper production declined in the first quarter. Shire Plc lost 1.5 percent following a two-day gain.
The FTSE All-Share Index gained 0.3 percent, and Ireland’s ISEQ Index added 0.8 percent.
