UK stocks slip at end of trade session, United Kingdom falls 1.76%

NEW YORK: U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Chemicals and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.76%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LONDON:ICAG), which rose 2.61% or 13.50 points to trade at 531.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Weir Group PLC (LONDON:WEIR) added 1.95% or 26.00 points to end at 1358.00 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LONDON:RBS) was up 0.90% or 2.90 points to 324.10 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Fresnillo PLC (LONDON:FRES), which fell 7.04% or 45.00 points to trade at 594.50 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (LONDON:STAN) declined 5.06% or 37.70 points to end at 707.30 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LONDON:RRS) was down 4.60% or 184.00 points to 3817.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1798 to 820 and 442 ended unchanged.

Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LONDON:FRES) fell to 5-year lows; losing 7.04% or 45.00 to 594.50. Shares in Standard Chartered PLC (LONDON:STAN) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.06% or 37.70 to 707.30.

Gold for December delivery was down 1.34% or 15.20 to $1123.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.56% or 0.22 to hit $39.09 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.20% or 0.09 to trade at $43.30 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 1.31% to 1.5483, while EUR/GBP rose 0.14% to 0.7352.

The US Dollar Index was up 1.00% at 94.86.
