NEW YORK: U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (L:IHG), which rose 6.92% or 160.00 points to trade at 2471.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Inmarsat PLC (L:ISA) added 3.52% or 32.50 points to end at 955.50 and Whitbread PLC (L:WTB) was up 3.32% or 157.00 points to 4882.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were AstraZeneca PLC (L:AZN), which fell 3.18% or 132.00 points to trade at 4024.50 at the close. Tesco PLC (L:TSCO) declined 2.32% or 4.5000 points to end at 189.1000 and International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (L:ICAG) was down 1.91% or 11.50 points to 592.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1084 to 1005 and 415 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.20% or 2.30 to $1175.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.19% or 0.09 to hit $46.19 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.06 to trade at $48.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.04% to 1.5459, while EUR/GBP rose 0.22% to 0.7340.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 94.85.
