MINSK: The Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system will be deployed at the Novaya Guta border checkpoint on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border in 2017, Chairman of the Belarusian State Customs Committee Yuri Senko told the media on 11 August, BelTA has learned.
The project will be implemented using international technical assistance. “The system will facilitate the work of customs and border services,” Yuri Senko noted. He added that the State Customs Committee continues to modernize border checkpoints. Six ones along the Belarusian-Ukrainian border are now being fitted with radiation control equipment.
The modernization of border checkpoints was discussed at the session of the committee on 11 August. The participants summed up the results of the committee’s work in H1 2017. It was noted that the customs receipts surpassed the target number by 3.1%. In H1 2017 they amounted to Br3.4 billion, up Br234.6 million from the same period a year earlier.
The EAEU’s customs border in Belarus was crossed by over 53 million tonnes of goods, 4 million of vehicles, and about 1.5 million of railcars. Participants of the session reviewed the results of the effort to modernize Belarus’ customs, update regulations and develop information technologies.
They also gave consideration to the customs clearance time, exchanged views on the ways to increase the customs’ clearance capacity. Special focus will be put on the practical measures to optimize the organizational structure of the Belarusian customs and on the improvement of the national customs legislation as the EAEU Customs Code has come into force.
