KIEV: Ukraine sees great potential for enhancing its trade and investment cooperation in the agricultural sector with Japan, local media reported Tuesday, citing a senior Ukrainian government official as saying. “Our goal is to fully open the Japanese market for Ukrainian products,” Olga Trofimtseva, Ukraine’s deputy agriculture minister, was quoted as saying during her working visit to Japan.
Ukraine, which currently exports grain and tobacco to the Asian country, has a potential to diversify the range of its exports items, Trofimtseva said, noting that Ukraine-made juice, meat products, berries and honey have good prospects of entering the Japanese market. Besides, Ukraine is interested in attracting Japanese investment in its agricultural logistics, infrastructure facilities, irrigation projects and production of equipment for smart farming, Trofimtseva added. In 2015, Ukraine’s agricultural exports to Japan amounted to 154.8 million US dollars, while imports stood at only 1.8 million dollars.
