KIEV: Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman has said his country is interested in joining the Trans-Caspian international transport route.
He made the remarks Mar. 27 at the summit of government heads of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM) member countries, the Ukrainian National News reported.
“I would also like to note the importance and priority of the Trans-Caspian international transport route,” Groysman said. “In 2014, 400 carriages passed through the territory of Ukraine via this route, and last year, we increased the number to 3,000.”
The GUAM format was created by post-Soviet states in 1997 during the summit of heads of the EU states in Strasbourg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the format and withdrew four years later.
In 2006, Ukraine and Azerbaijan announced plans to further increase the GUAM member relations and established its headquarters in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
