Ukraine significantly increases scrap metal exports in 2018

KIEV: Ukrainian enterprises working with scrap ferrous metals in January-March 2018 increased exports of these products by six times, compared to the same period in 2017, to 140,000 tonnes. They exported only 39,000 tonnes a year ago.

According to customs statistics made public by Ukraine’s State Fiscal Service, scrap metal exports in monetary terms grew by four times, to $47,800 ($11,500 in January-March 2017).

In March, exports of scrap metal totaled 54,000 tonnes, while in February – 53,000 tonnes, and in January – 34,000 tonnes.

In January-March 2018 the country increased imports of scrap metal in natural terms by 28.6 percent, compared to January-March 2017, to 11,000 tonnes. In monetary terms, imports grew 42.2 percent, to $9.2 million.

The goods were mainly imported from Turkey (75.43 percent of supply in terms of money), Russia (21.55 percent) and Slovakia (1.78 percent). Exports mainly went to Moldova (75.96 percent), Turkey (22.61 percent) and the Netherlands (0.81 percent).
