Ukraine’s soybean, sugar exports rise in 2017

KIEV: This year’s February soybean exports from Ukraine hits high again. They amounted to 344.8 KMT against 291.9 KMT in January 2017.  At the same time, the export trade volume increased more than 2.5 times compared to February 2016. In total, 1870.8 KMT of soybeans were supplied to foreign markets in the first half of 2016/17 (September-February).

This is already up 51% year-on-year (1239.1 KMT at the same time a year ago), UkrAgroConsult notes.

In the current 2016/17 season the range of soybean export destinations has widened to 30 countries. In addition, the traditional buyers have boosted purchases of Ukrainian soybeans. 70% of Ukraine’s overall soybean exports are absorbed by the top three importers, specifically Turkey, Egypt and Iran. Also, 18% of export deliveries are accounted for by the EU.

Meanwhile, Sugar exports from Ukraine since the start of the 2016/17 agricultural year (September-August) totaled 611,000 tons, the Ukrtsukor national association of sugar producers has said.

The association said in a press release that in March, Ukrainian companies exported 89,100 tons of sugar. This was 27% less than in February.

Some 15,260 tons was exported to Cote d’Ivoire in March, 11,390 tons to Sudan, 10,200 tons to Myanmar and 10,100 tons to Togo.

Now Ukrainian companies are sowing sugar beets. Sugar beets have been planted on 130,700 ha with the target of 330,000-350,000 ha.

As reported, referring to Ukrtsukor, Ukraine in 2015/16 agri-year increased sugar exports by almost 3%, to 113,000 tons.
