Ukrainian government to create 20 mobile anti-corruption groups at customs

KIEV: Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has decided to create the interagency target center and 20 mobile groups to combat corruption at customs offices under auspices of the Finance Ministry and introduced obligatory photo and video recording of customs clearance. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

According to a posting on the government’s website, the center will permanently coordinate actions of mobile groups consisting of representatives of the State Fiscal Service, State Border Service and National Police.

The analytical group of the center will unveil risky transactions in the zone of customs operations and transfer information to the mobile groups that would operate throughout Ukraine 24 hours a day. The obligatory photo and video recording of customs clearance will be gradually introduced.

“This will be a serious program for those who want to violate law,” Finance Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk said. He said that the mobile groups would start operating from August 1 and photo and video recording – from July 1.

According to the draft cabinet resolution, salary of the interagency target center’s head will be UAH 50,000, the mobile group’s head – UAH 40,000 and mobile group members
