MULTAN: The future of Collectorate of Customs Adjudication remains uncertain amid the ongoing structural reforms within the Customs Department. Following the division of the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Multan and the abolition of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan, Customs Adjudication finds itself in a precarious position regarding its jurisdiction and operations.
Under the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) reform program, significant changes have been introduced to the jurisdiction of the Multan Customs Collectorate. Key installations, including the Multan International Airport and the General Post Office (GPO) Multan, have been excluded from its jurisdiction. The Collectorate’s domain now extends only up to the Ghazi Ghat Bridge, with areas beyond incorporated into the newly formed Customs Collectorate Indus.
While the jurisdictions of Multan Customs Enforcement and the Directorate of Intelligence have been clearly delineated under the reforms, the status of the Customs Adjudication Multan Camp Office remains ambiguous. Officials within the Adjudication Camp Office are uncertain about their future role and the office’s continued existence.
“The Federal Board of Revenue is expected to provide clarity on the matter soon,” an official privy to the developments shared on condition of anonymity. Employees at the Customs Adjudication office are increasingly concerned about their professional futures, fearing a potential abolition of the office amid these sweeping changes.
Stakeholders have called on the FBR to expedite its decision regarding the fate of Customs Adjudication in Multan to alleviate growing apprehensions among staff and ensure smooth functioning of the department. The reforms aim to streamline Customs operations and improve efficiency, but the lack of clarity for certain branches is causing unease within the department.
As the reforms continue to reshape the Customs landscape, the future of Multan’s Customs Adjudication Camp Office hangs in the balance, awaiting decisive action from the authorities.
