Under DG Farooq Naser Awan’s supervision, NAB Karachi makes recoveries of Rs57b

KARACHI: In compliance with the direction of Chairman NAB Justice (R) Javed Iqbal and NAB’s motto “Our Faith, Corruption Free Pakistan”, NAB Karachi organized an Anti-Corruption walk in line with the International Anti-Corruption Day which is observed every year on 9th December. NAB Karachi arranged awareness walk followed by seminar on “Corruption Free Pakistan – Accountability for All”, prize distribution and merit certificate ceremony among the officers/officials of NAB Karachi and students of various schools.

DG NAB Brig (R) Farooq Naser Awan, SI (M) while delivering welcome speech extended gratitude to the guests and participants and highlighted the importance of International Anti-corruption day public awareness events. He said NAB Karachi over the past few years has geared up its operations against the corruption and has been performing exceptionally well. While highlighting the performance, NAB (K) DG has apprised that during year Oct 2018 – Dec 2019, NAB Karachi has received over 11000 complaints, which were subsequently resulted into 198 inquiries, 77 investigations, 179 arrests and 50 references as filed in Hon’able Accountability Courts during 2019.

It is worth mentioning that NAB Karachi has recovered Rs 7 billion through Plea Bargain during last 18 years, whereas during Oct 2018 – Dec 2019 NAB Karachi has recovered Rs 5 billion through Plea Bargain in one year, which reflects 50% increase in direct recoveries. He further said that this increase in recoveries also goes true for indirect recoveries, as in the previous 18 years NAB Karachi has recovered Rs 20 billion, whereas during the tenure Oct 2018 – Dec 2019, such recoveries come to Rs 50 billion, which is 1.5 times higher in comparison, with previous 18 years and if Bahria Town recovery is included in the same, this recovery goes up to Rs 700 billion plus, which is remarkable performance as compared to previous 18 years.

The Chief Guest of the occasion was Governor Sindh Imran Ismail while former President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Siraj Qasim Teli, Journalist/Analyst Mazhar Abbas, and Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan Zia-ul-Haq Makhdoom attended the event as Guest Speakers.

The chief guest Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, while speaking at the occasion emphasized that all the segments of society shall play their role in the eradication of corruption, while other guests speakers emphasized on self-accountability and accountability across the board. Later on the Governor Sindh distributed the merit certificates amongst the officers/officials of NAB Karachi and prizes amongst the winners of declamation contest and poster competition held all over the Sindh.
