SUKKUR: Under the dynamic leadership of Chairman NAB Justice (R) Javed Iqbal, the Lahore National Accountability Bureau (NAB) showed a 700% increase in recovery in cases related to the housing sector and a 500% increase in recovery in all corruption scams. Similarly NAB Sukkur has made record recoveries of around Rs 11 billion in a single case against officers of Sindh Food Department. Following the directions from Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal regarding utilization of maximum sources for recovery in all ongoing cases and submission of the recovered money in government kitty, the Regional Bureau Lahore has shown mega increase in collections from corrupt elements by successfully recovering Rs 36166 million since 2017 to till date, whereas, Rs 4505 million had been recovered during 1999 to 2016 in Housing Sector only. On the other hand, following the directions of NAB Chairman, Sukkur Bureau’ teams, led by Director General NAB, Sukkur Mirza Irfan Baig, took action and received credible evidences against alleged embezzlement of billions of rupee in wheat godowns of seven districts of Sindh. On receipt of various complaints and source report, DG NAB Sukkur Mirza Irfan Baig authorized 7 inquiries against officers/officials of Food Department and others on allegations of misappropriation of wheat stock available at Provincial Reserve Centres in different districts of Sukkur Region including Ghotki, Khairpur, Kashmor, Nausharo Feroze and Kandhkot. In light of available evidences, it carried out raids on Provincial Reserve Centres (Godowns) of seven districts of Sukkur in the presence of judicial magistrates and apprehended several accused to detect the alleged corruption. It was found that thousands of wheat bags were missing from godowns. Total number of missing bags is 1911356. The officers and officials of NAB Sukkur worked hard to make recoveries of the misappropriated amount of around Rs 11 billion. Mirza Irfan Baig said this was biggest action of NAB, Sukkur in the history and vowed to continue its operation against the mafia which had created artificial shortages in Sindh. Reiterating the NAB’s resolve of zero tolerance against corruption, he said the Bureau would take action against corrupt elements and wheat hoarders. Mirza Irfan Baig said the NAB was taking swift action on receiving public complaints and expressed his resolve to follow the vision of Chairman NAB Justice (R) Javed Iqbal and its policy of “Accountability for All’. Meanwhile, the DG NAB Sukkur in compliance of the Sindh High Court’s orders held a meeting with Secretary Food and petitioner Abdul Jabbar Sheikh. Mr Mukesh Kumar Karara confirms the same and submits that the NAB authorities extended their full cooperation and offered a patient hearing to the petitioners after which it was decided in the said meeting that the mark-up to be charged after recalculation. Mr. Obaidullah Abro learned NAB prosecutor submits that this exercise will be completed within two weeks.
