MARTIN COUNTY: About 50 pounds of marijuana have washed ashore near the Martin and Palm Beach County boundary line.
US Border Patrol authorities tell the South Florida Sun Sentinel that at least eight bales of the drug were found. Two bales were spotted in Jupiter Island, while the rest of the bales washed ashore in Jupiter.
Frank Miller, assistant chief patrol agent for the Border Patrol, says the drugs likely were part of a narcotics-smuggling event, and authorities are searching for the smugglers.
Miller says he believes the drugs could be coming from a few areas in the Caribbean.
Investigators are not sure if the drugs were thrown overboard from a boat, dropped from a plane or discarded another way.
