CALIFORNIA: Ashley County will have to watch it’s spending and curtail extra expenses such as overtime, Justice of the Peace Corliss McCain, chairman of the county’s budget committee, told members of Ashley County Quorum Court during its regular meeting on, Aug. 11.
As part of her budget committee report, Justice McCain told fellow quorum court members that the committee recommended against a series of proposed budget additions including additional funding for the public defender’s office, a request for $1,000 from the Arkansas Natural .The chair of the budget committee said that the biggest problems are overtime and over spending.
“There’s going to have to be some cutbacks,” she said. Justice McCain said that the landfill had 42 hours of overtime in one two-week pay period, and as a result, County Judge Dennis Holland, Sr., has cut back operating hours at the landfill.Justice McCain noted that the budget committee has met with county officials one time and will meet with them again to try to improve the budget situation.
The budget committee had previously approved the sheriff’s program, and the full court directed him to proceed with planning. He is to report to the full court with a final plan. The justices also approved a series of five appropriation ordinances, the full texts of which are included in this week’s Public & Legal Notices.
