AURORA: Kane County sheriff’s deputies say they intercepted more than 4 pounds of heroin worth more than $2 million that was delivered to Aurora.

The package, which contained 4.67 pounds of heroin, was delivered by bus about 1 p.m. Sunday to the Aurora Transportation Center, Kane County sheriff’s Lt. Patrick Gengler said. Gengler would not say where the heroin was delivered from.

Although it was disguised well, “our guys already knew what was in the package,” Gengler said. “To see these amounts coming in locally is scary. Any time we can make this significant of a dent, it’s huge.”

While at the scene, police said, deputies spotted Avran Lechuga, 26, of the 700 block of Superior Street, Aurora, pick up the package, Gengler said.

Deputies followed Lechuga to his home, where they questioned him about the contents of the package. Lechuga was charged with trafficking a controlled substance, manufacturing/delivering a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, each Class X felonies. Also, at Lechuga’s house, a .22-caliber handgun and $7,600 were seized, deputies said.

OK, hang on a minute. This guy picks up 4+ pounds of heroin and takes it back to his house. Now here come the police, go into the house, toss it and come up with what, a .22 caliber hand gun. Really?!?!! The guy is caught with over 2 million in H and who knows how many pounds he’s passed…

Bail for Lechuga was set at $5 million. His next court date is June 24 in Kane County court.

While deputies were able to estimate a street value for the drugs, they’ll never really know the actual value placed on the bust, Gengler said.

“You never know how much of an impact a seizure will actually have, but because these 4 pounds aren’t on the street, we may have prevented one person from having to go through what heroin addiction does to a family. … They may never have to walk down that road,” Gengler said. “We put a dent in (the heroin supply) for a little bit, but unfortunately there’s always someone waiting to step in.”
