US border agents arrest 14 suspects, seized  $366K in drugs

YUMA: Yuma Station Border Patrol agents arrested 14 individuals and seized more than $366,000 in drugs in four days.

Agents arrested a female U.S. citizen Sunday evening in the Quechan Casino parking lot for attempting to smuggle six Mexican nationals, one woman and five men, further into the country.

A second incident Sunday resulted in the arrest of six male Mexican nationals and the seizure of 287 pounds of marijuana valued at $143,850.  The men were seen smuggling marijuana south of Interstate 8, near Sentinel, prior to their arrest.

Saturday night, Yuma Station Border Patrol agents seized 225 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $112,500, dropped into the country by an ultralight aircraft.

On July 9, a canine drug-detection team located 22 pounds of methamphetamine in the rocker panels of a vehicle passing through Wellton Station’s eastbound checkpoint on Interstate 8. The drugs, valued at an estimated $110,000.

Agents seized all drugs and vehicles involved, and processed apprehended individuals in accordance with Yuma Sector guidelines.

Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents effectively combat smuggling organizations attempting to illegally transport people and contraband through southwestern Arizona and California.
