SANTA TERESA: Border Patrol Agents from Santa Teresa Station are being lauded for arrest of two individuals wanted for robbery and murder in Mexico.
Early Monday, agents working near Mount Cristo Rey, rapidly responded to sensor activity near Santa Teresa. The agents observed footprints in an area notorious for illegal entries into the U.S. They began to follow foot sign when they came upon 48-year-old Luis Alfonso Cantu-Maya and Luis Jesus Cantu-Garcia, both from Mexico. The father and son duo admitted to being in the country without any immigration documents. After further processing, it was discovered that the pair was wanted by the Mexican State of Nuevo Leon for robbery and murder. Both individuals were processed as expedited removals, and are being held at the El Paso Processing Center until arrangements can be made with Government of Mexico to extradite the pair back to the State of Nuevo Leon.
The day before, Border Patrol Agents working out of the Santa Teresa, New Mexico station, observed an individual walking across the U.S./Mexico border through Sunland Park, New Mexico. The individual was apprehended, and at the time of the arrest he allegedly was in possession of a package of a crystal-like substance, and a variety of pills. The subject was transported to the station and was later identified as 27-year-old Misael Uribe-Lopez from Mexico. Uribe-Lopez was previously deported earlier this year.
Agents tested the substances, the crystal-like substance tested positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine and weighed 0.36 pounds which has an estimated street value of more than $11,500. Several tests were completed on a total of 76 pills, and the composition and value were undetermined.
Uribe, the crystal methamphetamine, and the pills are being turned over to the Dona Ana County Metro Narcotics Task force for criminal prosecution.
