TEMECULA: Leveraging a defense-in-depth enforcement posture, San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a 46-year-old woman Thursday who had 31 pounds of heroin hidden inside her car.
At approximately 9 a.m., agents on the Interstate 15 corridor conducted a vehicle stop on a 2006 Nissan Sentra near the Border Patrol checkpoint and conducted an immigration evaluation on the driver.
During the vehicle stop, the agents’ K-9 alerted to the woman’s sedan. Agents searched the vehicle and discovered 14 vacuum-sealed bundles inside the car’s exhaust. The bundles weighed 31.57 pounds and were filled with white heroin. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $617,050.
The woman was arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and faces federal charges for drug smuggling. The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
Corridors of entry and exit from the U.S. are continuously monitored by U.S. Border Patrol agents to prevent the illicit smuggling of humans, drugs, and other contraband.
