WASHINGTON: US Customs and Border Protection officers seized about 50 pounds and $152,000 worth of methamphetamine in three separate incidents near the Yuma, Mexico border during the last week, a press release said.
Officers arrested a 20-year-old Yuma resident after finding nearly $56,000 worth of meth hidden in 12 wooden pieces of an unassembled scooter packed in his luggage. Officials asked to search his luggage while he was attempting to enter the U.S. through the pedestrian crossing at the Port of San Luis.
The officers conducted a secondary inspection of a 19-year-old woman’s vehicle and found 22 packages of meth, valued at about $71,000, hidden within the vehicle’s rocker panels.
Hours later, another man’s vehicle was secondarily inspected and a narcotics detection canine alerted officers to more than $25,000 worth of meth within the vehicle’s drive shaft.
Officers seized all drugs and vehicles, and referred the suspects to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
