PINE VALLEY: U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested two United States citizens in East County San Diego after finding two illegal aliens in their car trunk.
At approximately 7:50 a.m., two women in a late-model Toyota Celica arrived at the primary inspection area of the Interstate 8 checkpoint. The 26-year-old female driver and her 57-year-old female passenger were referred to the secondary vehicle-inspection area.
While in secondary, agents opened the trunk with the driver’s permission. A 32-year-old male and a 25-year-old male were hidden inside; both were sweating profusely due to the heat. Agents determined that the men were Mexican nationals illegally present in the U.S.
The driver and her passenger were arrested and face Federal charges for human smuggling. Their vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
Last fiscal year, the San Diego Sector apprehended 29,911 people for entering the U.S. illegally.
