CALIFORNIA: Border Patrol agents seized more than $505,000 of methamphetamine that was concealed in a car trying to pass through the Highway 86 checkpoint near the Salton Sea.
A 24-year-old man attempting to pass through the checkpoint in a 2013 Dodge Avenger was taken into a secondary inspection area after a drug-sniffing dog alerted to his car at 10 a.m., according to Border Patrol agents.
After an intensive search, agents located 34 packages of methamphetamine hidden in the panels of the vehicle. The methamphetamine weighed more than 50 pounds and was estimated to be worth $505,000.
The driver, a Mexican citizen and lawful permanent resident of the U.S., the car and the drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
