EDINBURG: Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol agents seized more than $720,000 worth of marijuana in several seizures over the past Marijuana seized by Border Patrol near La Rosita, Texas.
The largest seizure occurred Monday in La Rosita when agents from the Rio Grande City Station confiscated nearly 230 pounds of marijuana. Agents were notified of several people walking north from the Rio Grande carrying bundles. As the agents approached the area, the smugglers dropped the bundles and swam back to Mexico. With the assistance of a K-9, agents immediately searched the area and discovered five bundles containing marijuana. The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Additional marijuana seizures in Havana, Roma, and Rio Grande City brought the total amount of marijuana confiscated over the weekend to close to 1,000 pounds.
The Rio Grande Valley Sector is part of the South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
