NIAGARA FALLS: U.S. Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Niagara Falls Border Patrol Station assisted the New York State Parks Police with an investigation that led to the arrest of Robert E. Macleod, age 44, of Niagara Falls, N.Y. Macleod was charged with assault and robbery of a Japanese citizen visiting Niagara Falls State Park.
On December 28th, a New York State Parks Police Officer approached a Border Patrol Agent to describe an assault and robbery at the Discovery Center located in the state park on December 25th, around 11:40 p.m. The Border Patrol Agent was given a description of the crime and suspect.
The Border Patrol Agent relayed the information to an Intelligence Agent assigned to the Niagara Falls Station who contacted the Rainbow Bridge Commission to request their assistance. The commission provided video footage that yielded further information showing the suspect and victim at the time and scene of the crime.
On December 29th, Border Patrol Agents reviewed surveillance camera footage at a gas station located near the scene of the assault. The surveillance footage associated Macleod with a vehicle he was driving the day of the assault, which led to law enforcement identifying him as the suspect.
On December 30th, New York State Park Police located the suspect’s vehicle in Niagara Falls, NY, and initiated a vehicle stop. Macleod was arrested and charged with assault and robbery.
Niagara Falls Station Patrol Agent in Charge, Josh Barrett, stated, “The U.S. Border Patrol assists law enforcement partners every day in securing our border, which includes insuring the safety of residents and visitors to our area. The arrest of this individual highlights the cooperation between law enforcement agencies in bringing dangerous criminals to justice. I commend our agents for their hard work and commitment to service.”
