US border patrol seizes 273p of marijuana

DEMING: Border patrol agents from Deming and Lordsburg seized more than 273 pounds of marijuana last week and apprehended six suspected narcotics couriers.

According to the agents, they saw people loading backpacks into the trunk of a Jaguar. Two of the suspects got into the car, speeding away at a high rate speed without headlights. Three people were apprehended and were found to have 45 pounds of marijuana.

A few hours later, a border patrol agent in Lordsburg, New Mexico, came across the driver of the Jaguar walking barefoot. The driver, Ignacio V. Cuevas, 37, had sped off from the agents with two other people and backpacks full of marijuana.

The two missing drug smugglers were later found as well.

The other five men were later identified as Paul Mercado-Herrera, 20, Nolberto Serrano-Barraza, 24, Henry Garcia-Aguilar, 19, Adrian Valles-Sosa, 26, and Uriel Mendez-Perez, 20.

The total weight of the seized marijuana was 273.4 pounds, valued at approximately $218,700.
