TEXAS: Federal authorities at the Del Rio Port of Entry arrested a local man after discovering he had nearly three ounces of heroin hidden in a body cavity.
“Our frontline CBP officers’ experience and attention to detail are essential in interdicting illegal narcotics,” said Alberto Perez, CBP Port Director at Del Rio. “History has shown that people will go to extreme lengths to smuggle drugs into the country.”
The Del Rio International Bridge, inspected a taxi as it arrived from Mexico. After a CBP canine alerted officers to a passenger in the vehicle, the man was directed to a secondary inspection area. During investigation, officers discovered a package containing 2.9 ounces of heroin that the subject had hidden in a body cavity.
The passenger, a 28-year-old Del Rio man, was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for federal prosecution.
