REDWOOD CITY: Sheriff’s deputies booked a suspected gang member into a Redwood City jail on suspicion of three felony offenses after he was arrested in Mexico over the weekend, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, Newark resident David Villa, 31, was arrested in Mexico last weekend and deported from Mexico on Monday, sheriff’s officials said.
Villa was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of mailing a controlled substance into a jail, conspiracy and committing a felony as a gang member, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives raided Villa’s Newark home in July to investigate whether he conspired to mail the illegal goods laced with drugs into the jail, where he is now being held, sheriff’s officials said.
Villa’s bail is set at $1 million, sheriff’s officials said.
