MONTEREY: Six men have been sentenced to prison for trying to smuggle 2,800 pounds of marijuana into California by boat.
Each received a two-year sentence Friday in Monterey County after pleading no contest to felony charges.
Authorities say the men were involved in smuggling 111 bales of pot from Mexico to the coast of Big Sur in June.
The Coast Guard tracked a 30-foot panga boat at sea but by the time it was found on shore nobody was in it.
Authorities later stopped a van with four men inside, and five other men found on the beach were arrested.
All were charged with conspiracy, transporting marijuana and possessing pot for sale but two posted bail and may have fled to Mexico. A third man earlier pleaded guilty.
