ALASKA: The centrist Progressive Policy Institute (CPPI) estimates that Title II could pile more than $10 billion in new taxes and fees on Internet fees, and economists warn it will drive down investment we need to build faster new networks and continue growing the Internet economy.
The FCC’s new Open Internet rules violate one of the first principles all government regulators .Everyone supports the idea of protecting net neutrality making sure ISPs cannot block access to competitors’ websites or force anyone into slow ones online.
But rather than simply passing simple rules to stop abuse, the FCC has decided to rewrite virtually all the rules for everything we do online, opening a regulatory Pandora’s box called “Title II” that experts say will drive up Internet costs and dramatically curtail investment in new networks. Congress must step in and reverse course.
And while today’s Internet was built on an “innovate first, ask questions later” basis, Title II abandons the longstanding bipartisan agreement on light Internet regulation and imposes close government supervision of products and services online, effectively requiring permission slips before rolling out new capabilities.
