RIO GRANDE CITY: US Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station successfully interdicted three narcotics seizures totaling over 1,900 pounds of marijuana on Tuesday, with an estimated value of more than $1.5 million.
The largest of the seizures took place near Fronton, where collaborative efforts among several law enforcement agencies culminated in the seizure of 1,266 pounds of marijuana in a single smuggling attempt. The enforcement action was planned and successfully executed after agents received information of possible illegal activity south of the small border community of Fronton.
Office of Air and Marine pilots identified the smuggling attempt and relayed the information back to responding agents. As the agents arrived at the scene, the subjects dropped the bundles and returned back to Mexico. A search of the area resulted in the discovery of 19 abandoned bundles of marijuana and the arrest of one subject.
