WASHINGTON: Federal agents in Tucson seized nearly 27 pounds of methamphetamine and 15 pounds of cocaine, worth a combined value of $238,000, at the checkpoint between the border and Tucson, according to investigators.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents used a canine unit and an X-ray truck and seized nearly 20.8 pounds of meth hidden in the spare tire of a Ford pick-up truck, which was estimated at a value of $137,280, officials said.
The Tucson-sector border patrol agents also used the same devices to find cocaine and meth in a Saturn SUV occupied by an adult male and female with two children, federal agents said.
Agents used the X-ray truck to locate a hidden compartment containing 15 pounds of cocaine, and six pounds of meth, according to border patrol agents. The drugs had a combined value of more than $100,000, according to federal agents.
The drivers of both vehicles are under arrest and the drugs are being processed under the Tucson Sector guidelines, officials said.
